Practicing yoga outdoors can offer numerous benefits beyond the physical aspects of the practice

  1. Connection with nature

Being outdoors allows you to connect with the natural world, fostering a sense of unity with the environment. This connection can deepen your practice and enhance your overall well-being.
  2. Fresh air

Outdoor yoga provides access to fresh air, which can be invigorating and rejuvenating. Breathing in fresh air can help improve lung function, increase oxygen flow to the brain, and boost energy levels.

  3. Vitamin D

Exposing your skin to sunlight during outdoor yoga sessions can increase your body's production of vitamin D, which is essential for bone health, immune function, and mood regulation.

  4. Increased focus

Practicing yoga in natural surroundings can help improve focus and concentration. The sights, sounds, and sensations of the outdoors can draw your attention inward, allowing you to be more present in your practice.

  5. Enhanced mood

Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Combining yoga with outdoor settings can amplify these mood-boosting effects, promoting feelings of calmness and well-being.

  6. Spaciousness

Outdoor spaces often offer more room to move freely compared to indoor studios. This sense of spaciousness can enhance yoga practice, allowing for deeper stretches and more expansive movements.
  7. Mind-body-spirit alignment

Being in nature can facilitate a deeper connection between the mind, body, and spirit. The natural surroundings can inspire introspection, self-awareness, and a sense of interconnectedness with the universe.

Sessions are 75-90 minutes long and are held at our Headingley Campus. Alternative locations are also available, please contact us for details.

Yoga can be incorporated into a multi-activity programme with other activities such as team challenges, bushcraft or archery, and can be used to centre the participants before the day’s adventures, or to encourage relaxation and reflection at the end of the day. Beginning the day with yoga sets a serene tone, promoting focus and intention for the challenges ahead, while concluding with yoga allows individuals to unwind, process their experiences, and bond over shared achievements.
