choosing a university course

Tell us a few things about yourself and we'll give you some suggestions. At Leeds Beckett our courses are designed to give you a future advantage in your career – that’s one of the reasons we’re the highest climbers in this years’ Complete University Guide league table, up 40 places.

Our Clearing courses are all listed with entry requirements, we have our UCAS points calculator – meaning you can turn your grades into points and see which courses you can apply for – and our Chatbot Becky can answer your questions 24/7, as well as make offers when you know your results.

And, of course, there are also websites like UCAS, Unicompare and Complete University Guide that offer helpful support and advice too.

  2. Seek advice from teachers, parents and career advisors

When it comes to choosing a university course, guidance from your parents, guardians, teachers and career advisors can prove invaluable. Seek their advice, discuss your aspirations, and explore your options. Their insights can provide a fresh perspective and open doors to courses you may not have considered.

  3. Consider your strengths and skills

Sure, following your passions is crucial, but also consider your strengths. Think back to the subjects you excelled in during school, sixth form or college and the skills you've developed. Look for courses that match up with your abilities, as this will help your learning experience at university.

  4. Think beyond the course

Take the time to dig deeper than the course itself. Think about factors like location and student life too.

At Leeds Beckett you’ll find a city that has something for everyone, that’s loved by students. From a huge nightlife and music scene to fantastic shopping and food options, Leeds is city with everything, but also small enough to get around easily. An affordable cost of living is popular with students too. These are just a few of the reasons why so many students decide to stay in the city after graduating.

It’s important to find a location and university that matches your personality. So looking at societies and sports teams is a another way to start picturing how you might spend some of your spare time. From American Football and netball to Equals (LGBTQ) and Sustainability societies, we’ve got a lot of opportunities for you to meet new people and settle in at Leeds Beckett.

  5. Be open-minded

Keep in mind that alternative options may lead to exciting new opportunities. Don't limit yourself to preconceived notions or specific universities. Be willing to explore courses that align with your interests and career goals, even if they're not what you initially envisioned.

  6. And, remember, we’re here to help

Choosing the right university course may seem challenging, but with careful consideration and a little research you can make a well-informed decision.

Good luck on your journey to finding the perfect course for you and, if you need any support along the way, we’re here to help.
