Interventions

The Pathway of an intervention

You should first raise any concerns with your student, and build this area into a weekly target, giving your student an opportunity to make progress. If your student is still not making the required progress, then you should let the Link Tutor know about your concern. At this stage, you might perhaps speak to a colleague or even arrange an observation of your student by a fellow Mentor.

We suggest that if the concerns are not addressed within a week, you contact the Link Tutor who will arrange a Teams meeting. If you and the Link Tutor are agreed that progress is not as expected, an intervention will then be put in place as follows:

  • A support plan based on a maximum of three Teachers’ Standards or Core Areas is agreed between the Link Tutor and you and recorded in PebblePad in the intervention section for each phase. The plan should detail targets that are specific and achievable by you within a week (see support plan template).
  • Additional Mentor support should be agreed as well as a date and time for the review meeting when an assessment will be made about your progress. It is expected that the intervention should last a week, long enough for you to demonstrate progress and meet expectations by the end of the placement.
  • The plan is discussed with your student and agreed as achievable. Your student should understand that a follow-up meeting will be held to determine the outcome of the intervention. Link Tutors should offer additional personal support, inform the Partnership Team and, where appropriate, the student’s Level Lead or Personal Tutor.
  • The Link Tutor and you will agree a date and time to return for an in-person visit and follow-up review meeting. That meeting will include an observation of your student, a discussion with you and a tri-partite conversation with you, your student and the Link Tutor. The conclusion of this meeting will be either that your student continues the placement, or the placement is terminated as a failed placement. The outcome of the meeting will be clearly communicated to your student at this time.
  • Should a placement be terminated, a meeting of the student with the Course Director, Level Lead and Partnership Lead will be held within a week to discuss next steps.
