Get involved with our research

Take part in our research and help us to have real impact on people’s lives.

Many our research projects rely on the generosity of people to help us gather data, and we require participants to help us in lots of ways. For some trials you'll need to take part face-to-face, for others you'll simply need to volunteer some time online. Below is the list of current trials taking place in the Centre for Psychological Research.

Abstract: This is a motor study which assesses performance in maintaining a coordinated rhythmic movement at increasing frequencies.

Description: This is a motor study which assesses performance in maintaining a coordinated rhythmic movement at increasing frequencies. In this experiment, you will be facing a monitor displaying two dots and you will be holding a joystick. One of the dots will be moving on the screen, while the other is controlled by the joystick. Your task is to move the joystick so that the second dot moves opposite with respect to the first. The speed of the dot will increase, making this task more difficult as you progress through the trial. The study will take place in room CL718.

Duration: 30 minutes

Age range: 18.00 - 99.00

Eligibility: 18 years or older, normal or corrected-to-normal vision, no overt motor impairment.

Abstract:

Description: The aim of this study is to identify whether age differences affect motivation in students of online mode of study. The two groups that are being analysed and compared are: younger and more mature students. These groups are being compared, as little research has been conducted on the attitudes of different age groups towards motivation in students of distance learning mode of study. This is my final year project for my postgraduate psychology degree at Leeds Beckett University. It is important to note that I will not fail my project if you do not wish to take part in this study.

Duration: 10 minutes

Age range: 18.00 - 99.00

Eligibility: None

Abstract: This experiment consists of a judgement task which investigates the perception of coordinated rhythmic movement. Participants will have to make a two-alternative forced choice between displays.

Description: In this study we are investigating how different people perceive coordinated rhythmic movement. In the experiment you will have to sit in front of a computer monitor for 20-30 minutes. You will be able to go at your own pace and take breaks if necessary. You will be shown a series of displays of two dots moving in a coordinated rhythm; your task will be to identify the cases in which the dots’ movement is opposite, through a keyboard response. Every trial will contain two displays, played one after the other, and one of the two will be the correct one. It is a simple task, with the difficulty increasing as you submit correct responses. You will be shown an example of the movement you are meant to identify before beginning the task, and we will assist at the start to make sure you have understood everything is clear. After a first sequence is complete, you will do a second, in which the position of the dots is perturbed. This could make the task more difficult. The study will take place in room CL718.

Duration: 35 minutes
