Rachael Binns

Lecturer

Rachael is a lecturer at the School of Nursing, drawing from an extensive background in surgical nursing and pre/post-graduate medical/nursing education within the NHS. Her transition to an academic role at Leeds Beckett University reflects her commitment to Nursing Education.

During her nineteen years’ experience within the NHS Rachael has progressed from the role of a Junior Staff Nurse to that of a Senior Sister, contributing to her expertise in different surgical specialties including General Surgery, Urology, and Gynaecology. She holds a particular interest in Trauma Orthopaedics nursing, a speciality which she has noted clinical experience in. She has extended her interest in education that goes beyond her clinical role, with significant past involvement in delivering Health and Safety Education within the private sector.

Rachael has a great enthusiasm for education and alongside her surgical nursing experience has spent considerable time working developing and delivering Clinical Skills and Simulation Education to post graduate and undergraduate colleagues, at a local, regional and national level within Post Graduate Medical Education working as a Lead for Clinical Skills and Simulation Education at a large teaching hospital.

Research Interests

Rachael's focal passion encompasses human factors and non-technical skills, recognizing their intrinsic significance in care delivery. Her academic interests extend to research in these areas, with a specific focus on how experiential learning in human factors and non-technical skills can enhance and improve patient care outcomes.
