Michelle Stephenson

Senior Lecturer

Michelle is a registered mental health nurse, who worked clinically in NHS community mental health services and as a primary care mental health specialist in local GP surgeries. She began working in academia in 2020 at the University of Bradford and progressed to her position as Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing at Leeds Beckett University in 2022. In this time, she has completed her PG certificate in Higher Education and is a Fellow of the HEA.

Within the Nursing School at LBU, Michelle is a cohort leader on the undergraduate nursing programme. She teaches primarily on this programme but has some involvement with the nursing associate and degree apprenticeship programmes.

Michelle's teaching areas of expertise include community mental health nursing, communication and trauma informed practice. She is also currently working on a project to develop the role of the academic advisor within the School of Health.

Research Interests

Michelle's research interests are trauma informed practice and the role of the academic advisor. She is currently collaborating with colleagues from the School of Health with the aim to develop and publish an article looking at the impacts of change to the academic advisor role, considering trauma informed principles.
