Dr Jacqueline Parkin is a registered nurse and joined the university in 2022 as Head of Nursing and Healthcare. As Head of Subject, she leads a complex portfolio supporting the student experience for both undergraduate and post graduate nursing programmes.

Jacqueline worked in the NHS for many years in acute and critical care settings before beginning her academic career in 2003. She has held many roles in academia and has a particular interest in supporting international learners and developing international exchanges and experiences including Collaborative Online International Learning events. She has worked with several overseas universities including in the Middle East, Australia and China.

Jacqueline's teaching interests are mainly within the area of research methods.

Research Interests

Jacqueline's research interests include international students' experiences of independent learning. Her thesis was titled International Postgraduate Students' Experiences of Independent Learning in a Higher Education. She favours qualitative research methodologies, in particular Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. She is also interested in exploring placement experiences for black and global majority students.
