School leaders from across Yorkshire gather for mental health conference
The conference, held recently at the university’s Headingley Campus, saw 84 school mental health leads talk about their experiences of working to improve mental health support across their school communities, and how they can work collaboratively to improve provision together.
Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools founder Rachel Bostwick said: “The Senior Mental Health Lead conference is the final part of School Leaders completing their Senior Mental Health Lead course, a course which is currently being funded by the Department for Education.
The Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in schools is one of the delivery partners. We currently work with over 3,000 schools nationally and internationally to support them to develop a whole school approach to mental health. It was great to see delegates working together, sharing good practice and discussing how to further strengthen mental health provision in their schools.”
The conference is one of nine being held in regional centres across England, with each offering school mental health leads an opportunity for learning, reflection and network building.
Ben Norman, Assistant Headteacher at Swanwick School and Sports College: “It’s been great to speak to like-minded colleagues and share best practise.
“I’ve picked up some brilliant insights and techniques that I know I can implement for staff training, especially when we get back to school in September."
Senior mental health lead training is supported with funding from the Department for Education and is available at three different levels suitable for all levels of experience.
