Fashion royalty flock to see latest Matty Bovan collection
18 September 2019
Yorkshire designer and Leeds Beckett University Senior Lecturer, Matty Bovan, debuted his third stand-alone show at London Fashion Week with a sci-fi inspired spring/summer 2020 collection.
Fashion royalty and celebrity guests, including Dame Anna Wintour and Daisy Lowe, experienced Bovan’s latest designs, which take inspiration from workwear silhouettes, particularly medical scrubs and flight uniforms.
For a second season, Liberty Fabrics has worked with Matty on the prints, their cheerful and familiar designs contrast with the practicalities of everyday workwear, creating hybrid garments with a flamboyant twist.
Sci-fi wardrobe staples complement the collection as bomber jackets and leather jackets, which are cropped and curved, add more edge to the pieces.
This collection sees the first original bag designed by Matty, shaped like a kite in the colours of the operating theatre. It also features headwear that consists of large magnifying screens, the exact size and shape of an iPad, in front of the models’ faces.
Matty’s mum, Plum, also made some of the eccentric jewellery.
Matty is a Senior Lecturer at Leeds School of Arts at Leeds Beckett University. Read more about his work with the university.
