Free online access for Leeds Law School students to top legal library
Leeds Law School is offering students free online access to what is considered the gold standard in legal educational material.
The School, part of Leeds Beckett University, now offers unlimited access to the online version of the Law Trove – a comprehensive law library published by Oxford University Press.
The move will provide further materials for Leeds Law School students after universities across the UK closed physical access to their libraries and moved to online learning amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Deveral Capps, Dean of Leeds Law School, said the investment in the Law Trove would significantly boost material available to current and prospective students.
“We carried out a trial subscription to Law Trove and it proved immensely popular with both students and lecturers.
“This is a significant investment for Leeds Law School and is another example of our commitment to providing the best possible learning experience for our students.
“Given the current circumstances with coronavirus, having the Law Trove at their fingertips in its online format is a great resource for students, and means they will no longer have to purchase any textbooks for their courses.”
Law Trove includes collections ranging from Contract Law, Criminal Law and Equity & Trusts to EU Law, Land Law and Public Law.
Brad Graves, President of the Student Law Society at Leeds Beckett University, said: “Law Trove has had a positive impact on my studies in many ways, not only is it easily accessible across multiple devices, but its functions are very well suited to students.
“For example, you can download chapters in PDF form to keep and annotate on any device, and you can access multiple books from different authors on various topics; this helps when trying to understand complex principles of law.
“It also saves me carrying thick, heavy books to and from university, which is always a positive when you have more than one subject on your timetable that day.
“I’ve had a very positive experience with Law Trove and am grateful Leeds Law School has decided to keep it.”
According to Oxford University Press, its award-winning Law Trove “helps students investigate the subject in more depth, testing their understanding or cross searching multiple titles at once in the broadest and best collection of law textbooks online”.
