Prison Modernisation and Abolitionist Perspectives
Join the Centre for Applied Social Research (CeASR) who are hosting a symposium on prison modernisation and abolitionist perspectives.

The Centre for Applied Social Research (CeASR) is a university-wide research centre which orchestrates interdisciplinary research across the social sciences in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. This symposium will include:

  • Welcome and introductions from Dr Emily Luise Hart from Leeds Beckett University
  • A presentation by Dr Rob Jones, Dr Emily Luise Hart and Dr David Scott on their research into, and recently published article on Prison Modernisation and prison expansion in England and Wales followed by a discussion and questions
  • A Keynote talk from Professor Joe Sim entitled: Punishing the Destitute in 'Iron Times': State Authoritarianism, Modern Prisons and Abolitionism
