I'm conquering the private finance and stock market industry

What course/degree did you do?

Politics and Political Economy

What is your current role?

Trainee Paraplanner (fully qualitifed mortgage and protection advisor too but not included in official job title)

What organisation are you working for?

St James's Place Wealth Management (Newcastle Location)

How did you find this job?

I found a different role at the company on Indeed but did not get offered the job. The Head of Business called me back a few days later to offer me an interview for my previous PA role as a result and have been promoted up to my current position since.

What do you enjoy about this job?

I enjoy the financial report writing and client relationship side of things. I particularly enjoy watching people acheive their financial goals, such as early retirement and house purchases through our investments.

What skills are you using in this job that you got from Uni?

I'm using a lot of critical thinking skills I developed, particularly in my third year of uni during my dissertation writing and am regularly reffering back to my knowledge of the UK policial and economic system when considering why current financial markets are behaving the way they are.

What advice would you give young women looking for work in this area?

Don't be afraid of hard work but also don't be prepared to be taken advatange of by other people. Speak up if you are looking to progress in the private finance/ stock market industry, because the opportunities will pass you by if you are not prepared to fight for them. Never be made to feel you can't do something because you are a young woman in a male dominated industry, because you can and will. Most importantly, enjpy it. It's a great industry to work in both on a personal experiences level and to see people acheive massive life time goals each week down to your help!
