What is your favourite part of working at Leeds Beckett?

I love working here, I love it, I look forward to coming in every day. I look forward to the customers coming in greeting them, especially the students. We do work hard to look after the students, and staff as well.

My favourite bit of the job is coming in on the morning, making sure everything is ready. I always close in the evening so it’s always nice and clean when I’m going. So when I come in I have a walk around, make sure everything is nice and clean. I get everything ready for breakfast in the morning and just get ready to serve with a big smile on!

I used to live in London, then I moved to Leeds. I don’t have immediate family that live in Leeds so everybody from work, I just see them as family. Most of the students here, most of the Americans, I’ve become very close to them. Most of them call me mum, some call me auntie!

Is there something you’re most proud of from your time at Leeds Beckett?

I’m most proud of the fact that I think I’m loved by everyone. I do build up a good relationship with staff and all the customers that come in, students and everyone else here. Even during the lockdown when we moved over to do the cleaning, we got to meet more of the staff.

Now when people come to the food court, they will stop and have a laugh and a chat. We get to know and meet most people. This is the hub of the university community.

We get to know the students, and when one of them looks off, not as happy as when they first started, we make sure we look out for them. We make sure we have a chat with the students when they may be feeling down.
