"My dream is to one day be directly involved in technology development as it has changed how we live our lives, and as such, is a very exciting field to be working in."

Studying Computer Science

Technology sparked my interest from a very young age and when I was 17 I built my first computer. I'm not only interested in the mechanics of computing, but also the programming elements, too.

I'm a really keen gamer and I never realised until I started at Leeds Beckett that my interest and enthusiasm for computer games could be channelled into a Computer Science degree!

During college, I became a subject ambassador for computer science and was the first female student in my school to study the subject at A-level. This presented some challenges but mainly gave me the motivation to do well. It’s so important to have female representation in such a male-dominated field and industry.

I’m now coming towards the end of my first semester and it’s been such a great experience. My dream is to one day be directly involved in technology development as it has changed how we live our lives, and as such, is a very exciting field to be working in.

How will The Cognni BSc Computer Science Scholarship help?

The support given from the Cognni BSc Computer Science Scholarship will help me to seek out additional opportunities to support my studies. For example, this year I plan on participating in online events such as Amazon's Spring Technology Insight which will provide additional mentoring and industry insight into software development.

Making the most of such opportunities, along with a placement year, will set me up perfectly for a career in computing.
