investigating the world around us
Join us and study a range of contemporary themes including globalisation, migration, identity, social justice and the diversity of human living. On one of our courses you'll build your skills in developing sustainable communities and responding to urban challenges by learning how to make cities better places to live and work. If you study one of our BSc courses you’ll discover the diverse natural environments that our planet is able to sustain today, but also how these might be forced to change or adapt in the future. You’ll study natural hazard management and investigate how we might mitigate risks to our societies. You’ll look at where pollutants come from and how they impact and investigate sustainable solutions to the carbon crisis. You’ll unpick the workings of the modern climate system and piece together how components of the atmosphere, oceans and biosphere all interact with one-another.
You'll have the chance to study abroad, volunteer internationally, be involved in live research projects and go on international field trips. Our students have visited Russia, Lithuania, France, Germany and Spain. These trips will enable you to evaluate the implementation of spatial, cultural, economic and environmental policies, to gain an awareness of cultural differences and to develop a range of transferable skills to take with you after graduation. You can take part in local field trips within the Leeds region and throughout the north of England.
