Digital Storytelling and Innovation Network (DSIN)

The cluster is led by Darren Wall, Amrinder Romana, and Aris Lanaridis.

On behalf of the Digital Storytelling and Innovation Network (DSIN) research cluster, we would like to welcome you and to express our excitement about the research that will be developed through it in the near future.

The cluster aims to explore the impact of immersive storytelling in the context of modern globalisation. We will do that by putting focus on digital technologies and by considering the convergence between traditional and innovative platforms.

More specifically, our aims are:

  • To establish thriving, inclusive and interconnected community
  • To explore the confluence of technology, society, and culture
  • To explore storytelling in the context of modern globalisation
  • To revisit the impact of immersive storytelling and amplify in-depth empathy
  • To explore contemporary storytelling avenues
  • To explore and promote immersive experiences of cross-modality and transmediality

And these are the thematic areas that are initially endorsed:

  • To understand the influence of digital technologies on communication and social interactions
  • To explore the impact of immersive storytelling on audience engagement and society
  • To redefine our understanding of space through the impact of digital technologies
  • To investigate how technology can transform the art of storytelling and, though this, our understanding of culture and society
  • To research on immersive storytelling technologies and techniques
  • To raise funding to design and develop immersive storytelling platforms

We will have £20,000 to spend on activities that will promote research outputs for the cluster and so, to date, we have decided that the following would be useful areas of support that are in line with our aims:

  • To support the Modern Audience Conference on the 4th of March 2024 and possibly organise an academic contribution to such a conference
  • To support a writing/making retreat for researchers of the cluster
  • To support conference contributions
  • To raise funds for existing or new joint projects Presenting ongoing research (in the university and beyond) and encouraging cluster involvement
