Leeds Beckett welcomes award-winning games designer Sam Barlow to speak at the Modern Audience Conference 2023
The Modern Audience Conference is an exciting annual event hosted by Leeds Beckett University’s Leeds School of Arts and Leeds Arts Research Centre in partnership with Bellyfeel. The conference is an exciting opportunity for artists and creatives across Leeds to hear from industry experts in an interactive, one-day-only event, all about storytelling.
Sam Barlow will be joined by acclaimed director and games journalist Chella Ramanan and renowned actor Neil Bell to lead this one-day conference about interactive stories – their creators, fans and commentators, and how they shape modern media.
Interactive storytelling intersects with all sectors of the modern media industry and giving the audience more choice, more voice and more power.
Dr Anna Zaluczkowska, Reader in Film at Leeds Beckett University’s Northern Film School, said: “This conference will be really important for students and makers of film, games, theatre and other creative technologies. It will feature speakers from games, theatre, film and interactive productions who will be able to answer questions and talk about their state-of-the-art work. This research is crucial to new industry practices and new developments in media training and education.
“We have built on last year’s success where over 1,000 participants came along, eager to gain new insights into this developing area of production. Don’t miss out this year – the lineup of speakers is not to be missed.”
Krishna Stott, Managing Director of Bellyfeel, said: “We have a packed schedule of talented speakers, who are all sharing their skills and ideas at the cutting edge of media and interactive storytelling - most of these creators will be available for Q&A throughout the course of the day, so it's an unmissable opportunity.”
The conference is free to attend and is scheduled for Wednesday, 26 April 2023, between 12:00 and 17:30 and is part of Leeds Beckett University's INSIDE/OUT lecture series. The lecture series is an incredible opportunity to present international cutting-edge research and arts practice innovation to our research and teaching community here and to the wider national and international public.
The Modern Audience Conference runs during LEEDS 2023’s Season One: Awakening showcase, as part of the yearlong celebration of culture taking over the city.
