Leeds Beckett celebrates UK Music's 10th anniversary with Leeds event
The Music Academic Partnership (MAP) event was organised alongside BBC Introducing, with Leeds Beckett music students attending alongside Leeds College of Music and Backstage Academy students.
Leeds was the first stop on the MAP tour, with the audience taking part in a conversation with local rock band Pulled Apart By Horses and hearing a keynote talk by Paul Pacifico, CEO of Association of Independent Music, as well as taking part in industry workshops
Sam Nicholls, senior lecturer in Music, assisted MAP in organising the event. Sam, who is known in music circles as ‘Whiskas’, said: “The event was designed to give students a flavour of what to expect when they graduate and look for work in the music industry.
“It wasn’t exclusively for artists and budding musicians looking to break into the industry; we also had music event organisers, promoters, management companies, producers and representatives from record labels – it was for anyone interested in a career in the music industry.”
UK Music is an umbrella organisation made up of the representative bodies for artists, musicians, songwriters, record labels and music managers.
