Student spotlight | Alexander Miers-Jones, BA (Hons) Politics with International Relations
Stories
I am a second year (soon to be third year) student who is studying politics with international relations. I am the Politics Rep for the second years and the Secretary for the Sub Aqua (Scuba Diving) Society.
Q1 - Tell us a bit about yourself and what drew you to Politics with International Relations
I am a very loud and active individual who loves anything geeky.
I have always been interested in politics and I wanted to join the Foreign Office so I knew that I had to take politics with international relations.
Q2 - What made you choose Leeds Beckett?
I initially applied to York University but I did not get the grades required. I then applied to Leeds Beckett through clearing after hearing about the staff teaching skills. I sat and had an hour’s conversation with Sophia Price. She reassured me and encouraged me to join and it has been amazing ever since.
Q3 - What has been your favourite thing about your time studying at Leeds Beckett?
Studying politics at Beckett draws a wide range of people so whenever you get on to a topic that is contentious you will have a brilliant discussion. The debating is next level. We all end up knowing A LOT about politics so it is always going to be a fun time.
Q4 - What advice would you give someone thinking about studying this course?
You do not need to know everything about politics. The first year will give you a nice baseline of knowledge to help with the next two years. If you have a passion for politics and watch what is happening in current affairs, you will do brilliantly.
