Why did you choose your course?

“I chose to study Physical Education as I have always wanted to be a PE teacher. When I was taking part in PE classes I always looked up to the teacher and wanted to be them, to be the person who was knowledgeable and able to lead sport for young people, and as I went through my education I took all the opportunities I could to volunteer in teaching sport.

What do you like about Leeds Beckett?

"So far at Leeds Beckett I am enjoying the experience of meeting new people, learning new ways of developing my knowledge and pushing it further. I have also enjoyed being part of the football team at Leeds Beckett and in second year I am looking forward to enjoying it even more as we are able to play in the league. I am also looking forward to start undertaking placements, work experience, and voluntary work with sport organisations, which the scholarship will help with massively.

How does the Carnegie Class of 78-82 scholarship support you?

“Receiving this scholarship will help me significantly, both financially and mentally. It will help me to be able to develop my knowledge and skills through placements, and also enable me to have all of the kit to be able to participate fully in my university studies.

“In the future I want to go on to gain a postgraduate qualification and to be able to go on to work as a PE teacher. However I also have an ambition to go on to a higher level of study than that if possible and gain a PhD, and potentially work in in academia teaching at a university level.

"I feel privileged to be chosen as the recipient of this scholarship. I appreciate the fact that the graduates of the Carnegie School of Sport from 1978-82 have set up such a great thing as this scholarship, giving other people a chance to have better opportunities with this support."
