If you are looking for something to keep you active and sociable in your free time when at university then Carnegie American Football is ideal for you. The team is full of like-minded, competitive individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and ages who all share a common goal of getting better daily as well as having the will to win. Aside from this, we all pride ourselves in looking out for each other and sharing wisdom and experience in relation to the whole university experience on top of life as a whole. When you are part of this team, you have teammates, but vitally you have a potential brother for life.
Preferably some experience within a team/sporting setting but we don’t exclude those who want to try something new or want to develop themselves through physical activity. After all we live by our saying of being a brotherhood.
All individuals wishing to join in a taster session are required to bring a gum shield, sports clothing and boots. Our kit managers and committee have everything else necessary for someone new to the sport.
The team spends most of its time based at the Headingley Campus. With a schedule which will likely take up 15-20 hours of your time weekly spread over 4-5 days both midweek and on weekends. This includes on-field practices as well as Strength and Conditioning sessions and Recovery sessions. You will quickly get a first-hand experience of the excellent facilities Leeds Beckett University has to offer.
The team’s mantra is ‘The Relentless Pursuit of Excellence’.
The team expects all players to strive to reach their full potential whilst studying at Leeds Beckett.

The Leeds Beckett University American football programme is comprehensive, with opportunities available for student athletes to coach the younger teams and work within local schools. Many students have developed their coaching skills through this along with attending courses delivered on campus and in the local region.
The team has developed strong links with coaches in the USA and Europe and there are opportunities for athletes to use these to further their American football playing experiences.
We understand that to breed success players must be treated as individuals and their programmes will incorporate; coaching, strength & conditioning sessions, analysis, and physiotherapy. The programme’s motto is: ‘The Relentless Pursuit of Excellence’ – we expect every student-athlete to join us fully in this endeavour.
