Lucy aims for double triumph after international award nomination
Lucy, who graduated from LBU in 2013, is one of five nominees for this year’s BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year, it has been announced.
The fullback scooped the award in 2018 and was then named UEFA’s Women’s Player of the Year in 2019.
Ian Smyth, Head of Sport Coaching & Development at Leeds Beckett University, said: “Leeds Beckett University has a proud tradition of producing world-class athletes and it’s always hugely rewarding to see graduates being recognised on the global stage.
“Lucy’s continued success will hopefully serve as an inspiration for young women across the country who want to follow in her footsteps.”
Lucy starred in England’s run to the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup last year and won the French Champions League with club side Lyon.
She is joined on the BBC shortlist by Women’s World Cup Golden Boot winner Megan Rapinoe and PFA Players’ Player of the Season Vivianne Miedema.
The BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year winner will be announced on Tuesday 24 March.
