Students support homeless women for IWD 2019
The second year BA (Hons) Events Management students, Ginna Donaghy, Tina Burns, Emily Priest, Poppy Valentine and Jae Manwaring – from the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management - have developed a new campaign: Simone on the Streets, to raise awareness of female rough sleepers in the city.
Project manager of the event, Ginna, said: “We were tasked with launching a campaign for International Women’s Day and were introduced to Fiona at Simon on the Streets, who explained how they care for females on the streets.
“Whilst the evening will highlight an important issue, we want to make sure it is both educational and also a fun evening to ensure guests dig deep and help us raise as much as possible for the charity.”
The team have also organised a fundraising event on International Women’s Day at bar Fibre, Leeds, 17:00 – 22:00
The event will include stories from women affected by homelessness, live music, a raffle and a game of ‘feminist bingo’.
Tickets for the event are £3 and can be purchased here.
