Leeds Beckett biomechanics researcher contributes to Channel 4 show ‘How to Get Fit Fast’
Dr Brian Hanley, Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Biomechanics in the School of Sport, appears in the one-off special, ‘How to Get Fit Fast’. The programme will look at the latest fitness trends and help viewers identify which exercise is right for them.
The programme will be packed with specialist content from cutting-edge sport scientists including Brian and will uncover the truth about fitness myths and exercise secrets. The show will be presented by Anna Richardson, famous for hosting Channel 4’s Secret Eaters and producing You Are What You Eat with Dr Gillian Mckeith and Amar Latif.
Brian features in the show as an expert in the biomechanics of running. Speaking ahead of the broadcast of the programme, Brian said: “Running is a great way to get fit, although to help avoid injury it is best to build up distance slowly and to wear the right shoes. These will usually be shoes that are most comfortable and allow you time to run with your own unique style.”
‘How to Get Fit Fast’ aims to answer the questions people have about fitness including is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) really a shortcut to getting fit? What is bulking and shredding? And is Yoga anything more than just the latest trendy fad?
Anna Richardson added: “The programme will feature real people who have used exercise to transform their bodies and lives, and the ups and downs they have faced in the process, as well as sports scientists and experts who will explain the latest scientific findings behind the various exercises featured.”
Brian’s own sporting interest is in long distance running, and he has taken part in well-known events such as the English National Cross Country, Great North Run and London Marathon. He is also an endurance coach with British Athletics and Athletics Ireland and a race walk judge.
