Information for Staff, Alumni and Charities/Organisations

Plus Icon Be a Team Leader

Being a team leader on an international volunteering project is a rewarding but challenging experience and a great opportunity to develop yourself. No two projects are the same and the same team leader often has a very different experience on the same project the second year they participate. It's not always a straightforward task - some have found it extremely challenging and other less so but most describe it as intense, really good fun and an overall great developmental experience.

Staff must seek approval from their line manager and volunteering time is taken as annual leave. We can support you to do the role, including training alongside other team leaders to get you ready to recruit, prepare and go volunteering with your team. You may wish to include the role as a development opportunity and include within your annual PDR. We need Team Leaders, who must be Leeds Beckett members of staff to lead our 2020 projects. If you are interested in applying for the role please get in touch by emailing volunteering@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

We are also holding some drop-in information sessions, where you can come find out more about the projects we are recruiting for, what is involved in the role, what happens with annual leave and ask any questions that you have before applying.

The sessions are as follows:

11th June Bronte Hall 104, Headingley Campus 12:00 - 13:00

11th July Calverley 216, City Campus 12:00 - 13:00

Please feel free to bring along your lunch if you would like to attend. Please email volunteering@leedsbeckett.ac.uk, just so we know who to expect. You can come along for as long as you are able to, you don't need to stay for the full two hours.

Application deadline: 14th August 2019.

Team Leader Interview dates are as follows (need approx 30 mins per applicant):

Headingley - Tuesday 20th August
City Campus - Thursday 22nd August

Please read and complete the following documents if you are interested in becoming a team leader.

If you are interested but can not attend any of the information sessions please email volunteering@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

***Currently we are hoping to run the same projects as this summer (there maybe some changes, we can not guarantee every project will run again) - so please look through the projects on our website to have an idea about which project you may like to lead. It is important that you think about when in the summer you would be free to lead a team too, as we would start planning the project as soon as you have been selected.***

Plus Icon Arrange a talk

We would welcome the opportunity to come and talk to your students, we offer anything from a quick 10 minute talk to an hour's lecture on how volunteering can help with their employability skills. Please email volunteering@leedsbeckett.ac.uk to arrange.

Plus Icon Help with placements

Our international volunteering opportunities can help as an alternative placement for a student, all the team would be happy to complete any necessary paperwork for the student's placement.

Plus Icon Be a volunteer

Apply to become one of our international volunteers: all our projects are open to both students and staff. Staff receive a £200 discount on their first international volunteering project and will go through the same application and selection procedure as students.

Plus Icon Local volunteering

We also offer staff small one off local volunteering projects that teams could use as part of their team building and development program, if you are interested please contact Cara McCosh on c.mccosh@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

Plus Icon Join one of our projects

We welcome alumni to join our projects up to five years after they graduate, you are eligible for the same amount of bursary as a student on your first volunteering project and you will be covered by the University insurance policy. You have to apply and attend the selection events/team meeting like the rest of the team in order to qualify for a place. Please see more information about our projects.

Plus Icon Become a big brother / big sister on a project

If you have been a volunteer and loved your experience think about applying to be one of our big brother/big sister roles. These volunteers are given more responsibilities and help the team leader before and during the project. This is a great way to gain more leadership and project management skills and will give you experience of recruitment & selection, planning and taking part in another brilliant international volunteering experience.

As this is quite hard work we offer the big brother/big sister 50% bursary towards the cost of the volunteering project. If you are interested please contact volunteering@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

Charities & Organisations

If you are a local or UK charity and need volunteers now, we can advertise your volunteer vacancies on our student MyHub, which is their one stop shop for all jobs, volunteering opportunities and employability activity. You can also sign yourself up as an employer following this how to guide.

Plus Icon Become one of our partners

if you are an international charity or organisation that is looking to become one of our trusted partners or host a group or individual Leeds Beckett volunteers, please email us at volunteering@leedsbeckett.ac.uk. We will have a look at the information you send through as soon as possible and send you an email clarifying if we would like to work with you or if we have any other questions.
