We want to help improve sport coaching practice, education and development, and delivery systems by initiating, contributing to, and shaping conversations with sport coaching stakeholders

The Centre for Sport Coaching is a focal point for the discussion, advocacy, and development of:

  • Effective and ethical sport coaching practice to improve participant and performer development experiences and outcomes
  • Coach learning, development, and education
  • Coaching policy and systems

We want coaching stakeholders, whether novice or expert, and regardless of their workplace, to tell their story and to engage in effective dialogue, to make coaching better.

Our approach

We host and contribute to a discussion about sport coaching.

Our activities are driven through real-world, applied ‘multi-/inter-disciplinary’ projects and programmes.

Partnerships and collaborations are central to our way of working (see partners list below).

We work from the excellent Carnegie School of Sport facility, draw on a dedicated sport coaching affiliate staffing base of 40 colleagues, have a postgraduate community over 80 students including 19 Level 8 students working on core themes.

we provide

  • Opportunities to collaborate and share good practice
  • Applied research and development
  • Evaluation research
  • National and international events
  • Education and development opportunities

We want to think of old problems in new ways through embracing a diversity of perspectives. We want to ask difficult questions, but facilitate, as well as lead in, the development of answers. We want difficult conversations, but in a respectful way that embraces difference.
