The Sport Development subject group is characterised by a passionate and knowledgeable staff group, with a healthy mix of internationally-renowned researchers and colleagues with extensive experience of working in sport.
This means we can provide degree courses that will challenge and stimulate you intellectually whilst helping you to develop your employability.
Employability is a central theme to our courses and you will be able to tailor your studies to match your career ambitions in key areas, lead by our cutting edge research in: inequalities in sport, and sport in communities. Strategic management of sport and related topics mean that our staff keep their teaching up to date and remain at the cutting edge of research.
Our BA (Hons) Sport Development course and modules have been designed with leading industry experts. With a focus upon inequalities within sport and how they can be addressed, you will examine not only how to increase mass participation, but also how sport can be used to develop communities and tackle important social issues such as crime and health inequalities.
Our undergraduate degree in Sport Development is available with an integrated foundation year. If you don't have the required UCAS points to be able to secure a place on one of our sports degree programmes, the foundation year will prepare you for academic life at our University.
We have excellent relationships with practitioners at all levels of sport, with relationships with Active Schools Leeds, local authorities such as Leeds City Council, County Sports Partnerships including Yorkshire Sport Foundation, governing bodies of sport such as West Riding County Football Association, and various physical activity developers in the region. With our breadth of industry links, we can help you access authentic work placements, projects and events in order to enhance your employability and develop your professional networks.
We have strong links with the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). Our Sport Development course has previously received CIMPSA professional endorsement, and our staff continue to work closely with them to put our students at the forefront of the sporting jobs market.
