Head of Subject

Melissa is a legal education professional with many years’ experience working within academic law schools. She is a solicitor who worked at a commercial law firm specialising in tax planning before joining Leeds Beckett (or Leeds Met as it was then) in 1993 as a lecturer. She also spent five years working for the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) where her role included responsibility for the development of the Legal Practice Course, developing policy relating to legal education and quality assurance for the SRA’s schemes and qualifications.

Melissa is Head of Law, and has overall responsibility for all of the academic Law courses at Leeds Beckett. She is an experienced legal education professional with particular focus on postgraduate courses. She has also spent time working within legal practice and at the Solicitors Regulation Authority where her role included responsibility for the development of the Legal Practice Course.

Melissa is interested in employability for students and making sure that there are plenty of opportunities for Leeds Beckett’s Law students to make themselves attractive for future employees. She is also a governor of the Further Education Group of Colleges and works with a range of Higher Education and Further Education establishments to give her a broad of view of where Leeds Beckett’s Law courses fit into education as a whole.
