Dr Jane Turner

Research Impact Officer

Jane is the Research Impact Officer in the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management. Working with colleagues across the School, she seeks to maximise the impact of the School's academic research to demonstrate the societal benefits of our work.

Jane has a PhD in air travel behaviour (Westminster), an MSc in Tourism Policy and Management (Birmingham), a BSc (Hons) in Hotel and Tourism Management (Sheffield Hallam University) and a PGCE in Higher Education (Wolverhampton). In addition, she is the Special Interest Group Coordinator for The Association for Tourism and Leisure Education and Research (ATLAS) and holds two External Examiner posts at other UK HEIs.

In recent years, Jane has held several teaching and leadership roles within academia drawing upon her practical experience from within the tourism sector (including the posts of cabin crew, a senior courier and customer service assistant for large UK tour operators).

Jane’s current research interests concentrate on the impact of climate change and tourism focusing on destination adaptation to future climate scenarios. To support this area of research, she also works part-time for Leeds Tidal (a partner of Climate Action Leeds) as a Transport Just Transition Partner. The role seeks to explore how to amplify and support community-led climate action towards a ‘Just Transition’ for transport within Leeds (UK).

Current Teaching

Jane provides academic study skills support to students who are enrolled on the MSc Responsible Tourism Management, MSc Events Management, MSc Tourism Business Leadership and BSc Travel Business Management programmes.
