Short Courses and CPD
This beginners course will provide an overview of basic pattern cutting, it will introduce you to the principles and techniques so that you may increase your confidence, knowledge and skills in order to produce your very own patterns at an industry standard. This course is suitable for complete beginners and for those wishing to refresh their knowledge in a friendly and supportive learning environment.
How will I benefit?
On completion of this course you will have acquired a range of new skills, experiences and knowledge to help you produce and develop patterns. You will also have the opportunity to construct a basic bodice block in calico using industrial sewing equipment. All of which, you will benefit from receiving a pack of your personalised course literature following completion of the programme. All materials and equipment are provided for the course.
What will I learn?
You will learn about the fundamentals of pattern development. Such as, bodice and skirt block manipulation to industrial standards as well as recording your own body measurements. Following this, you will be guided through the pattern cutting process to produce a bodice and skirt block from your own measurement. You will also have the opportunity to practice your new skills in our fully equipped, industry-standard fashion studio. You will study:
- Taking body measurements
- Dart manipulation
- Pleat insertion
- Dress block development
- Garment tolerances
- Pattern terminology
- Basic garment construction
Location and facilities
The course will be delivered at the Leeds School of Art, Architecture & Design. The school is based in Broadcasting Place on Woodhouse Lane The courses is delivered in a professionally equipped fashion studio, where you will have access to use industry standard equipment and facilities.
