Access and Widening Participation

Our Access and Widening Participation team organise a wide range of activities for young people which aim to increase their confidence to succeed in Higher Education (HE).

Subject specific events

We host the following pre-16 events, designed to increase knowledge in specific subject and to introduce students to new career and education routes that they may not have previously considered.

The Science Circus, aimed at students in Year 7, offers and interactive day of science-based workshops, led by academic staff and student ambassadors. The event allows students to find out more about the progression routes into science-based courses and to consider careers in STEM.

Our Boys into Health and Education event aims to inspire participants to consider careers in the fields of Health and Education. Offering engaging workshops and motivational talks the event is influential in shaping GCSE and BTEC choices.

This is an interactive and immersive day, showcasing the practical skills required for courses in Civil and Electronic Engineering. Led by Engineering specialists from Leeds Beckett University, students take part in challenging and engaging workshops which test a range of technical and team-work skills. The day also allows students to explore the university campus and meet current students, who are studying engineering courses.

Politics Matters is a one-day event offered to Year 10 students. The event provides an opportunity for students who are interested in politics and current affairs to gain an insight into the nature of politics and the UK political system. The day includes a lecture and group activity on a key current political issue. Suitable for students from a range of Key Stage 4 courses, the day is an effective way to showcase a range of university courses in humanities and social sciences.

Designed to showcase the courses and careers in creative arts, this event is aimed at students in Year 9 and 10. The event will allow students to take part in workshops from across the Leeds School of Art and to find out about career opportunities in the creative industries. The event is hosted at City Campus and will include a tour of our new School of Art Building and studio space.
