Undergraduate Project Manager wins regional ‘student of the year’ award
Students Jonny Rudd, Emily Dickson and Aaron Duggan
Emily Dickson, who is in her final year of BSc (Hons) Project Management in the School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing, was named the winner of the Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire region.
She was nominated alongside fellow students Jonny Rudd and Aaron Duggan, who are also in their final year studying Project Management at Leeds Beckett.
Mark Laurillard, Course Director of Project Management at Leeds Beckett, said: “We were extremely pleased when Emily, Jonny and Aaron were named finalists, but for Emily to be named the overall winner is the icing on the cake.
“The APM awards are an excellent opportunity for students to present to an audience of professional practitioners and to network with leading organisations from across the region.
“The portfolio of work students submitted for the awards showcased the skills they have learnt during their degree studies. They were able to draw upon their coursework and on professional insights from their placement experiences in order to build their award-winning portfolios.”
The awards ceremony was the first time the APM region has held an event to recognise student work.
The audience, which included representatives from BT, Turner and Townsend, 20|20, and professional services firm WYG, heard keynote speeches from the Chair of the Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire branch David Burton and APM Chief Executive, Sara Drake.
“Our undergraduate course at Leeds Beckett is accredited by the Association of Project Management, so our students learn a range of transferable skills required to deliver projects,” added Mark.
“The awards recognise the great skills our students have learned while undertaking their courses and how those skills will transfer to professional roles once they have graduated.
“I am looking to repeat last week’s success next year.”
