Leeds academic to feature as Keynote speaker at The King’s Fund conference
Jane South, Professor of Healthy Communities, will discuss the impact of rethinking health to recognise what communities bring and how services can support better social connections. Jane is speaking at this event as Public Health England’s National Advisor on Communities.
She is well known for her research on volunteering and health, and has been working with Public Health England since 2014. She authored the 2015 PHE and NHS England guide to community-centred approaches for health and wellbeing.
Jane said: “The work I do with Public Health England is all about getting evidence into action. The importance of the community dimension for health is now widely acknowledged and many areas are using community-centred approaches. This conference offers a great opportunity to share experiences from across the health system.”
The King’s Fund conference, ‘Community is the best medicine: Making a reality of community-based health’ will be looking at the role of communities in health and care. It will also examine how to create sustainable, community-based health care, and share learning from areas where communities are taking a key role in improving and sustaining good health. Jane’s speech will follow the Minister of State at the Department of Health and Social Care, Caroline Dineage MP.
