Your guide to Leeds Pride 2018
The university has taken part in the city’s Leeds Pride parade and celebrations since 2014 as a visible statement of our commitment to LGBT+ equality
Ian Lamond, Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett and Chair of the university’s Rainbow Rose forum said: “August 5 marks the 12th anniversary of what has become Yorkshire’s biggest LGBT+ celebration, with more than 40,000 people participating in last year’s parade.”
“We are proud to be part of this event. Whether you are a member of the LGBT+ community, a community ally, staff, student, or know someone that works at Leeds Beckett, we would love for you to join us in the parade.
“We’ll be meeting at the Portland Gate at 13:00 on Sunday 5 August, ready to join the parade, which will begin at 14:00.”
As well as the parade, Leeds Pride hosts a number of acts and performers throughout the afternoon. Acts include:
- Baby D – Breakbeat hardcore and house music group best known for their UK number 1 “Let Me Be Your Fantasy”.
- Rozalla – Dance music performer whose song “Everybody’s Free” in 1993 led to her being nicknamed the “Queen of Rave”.
- Soraya Vivian, The Sundaes, SuRie, and much more…
Pride is a place for the whole family to celebrate, therefore Leeds Pride is hosting the “Barclays Family Hub” where you can go with your family to get creative. There will also be a marketplace where you can make your rainbow purchases, get glitter tattoos, eat cake and even get a professional picture taken at the pop-up photo booth.
