Leeds Beckett student earns prestigious internship
Nicola Pearce, who is currently studying a BA (Hons) International Tourism Management, was selected the overall winner after being shortlisted amongst five candidates from universities across England. She will be gaining a month’s paid internship with ABTA’s Destinations and Sustainability team.
Nicola said the experience she had gained in the industry during the placement year on her course had helped to secure the internship.
“Competition was tough this year and there were some great candidates at the selection day.
“Leeds Beckett University provides some great opportunities for students to get started in the industry, and working with ABTA will certainly provide me with excellent connections at the start of my career.
“I’m excited at the prospect of working with the Destinations and Sustainability team at ABTA and to contribute to the amazing work they do.”
Nicola will join the ABTA team at their London headquarters in July.
Lisa Gorton, Course Director BA (Hons) International Tourism Management at Leeds Beckett’s School of Events, Tourism & Hospitality Management, said: “Working for ABTA is a fabulous start to Nicola’s career in travel and tourism.
“The collaboration between Leeds Beckett and such key industry organisations and partners plays a vital role in our teaching and ensures our graduates are ready to embrace the opportunities of such dynamic industries.”
ABTA’s Education Partnerships Manager Vicki Wolf said Nicola had impressed the recruitment panel with her knowledge of the industry.
“It was a very tough decision this year as all the candidates were of an exceptional standard,” she added.
