Qatar students graduate on 2022 World Cup course
The second group of delegates on a Major Event Management programme have graduated from the course, held at the Josoor Institute in Doha.
A total of 24 potential MA students have been identified from this year’s cohort of 54 - the largest number so far - and they are now able to access ‘recognised prior learning’ credits to enrol on our September 2018 Masters in Sport Business.
The highly innovative project forms part of the Josoor Institute’s educational roadmap for Qatar’s Supreme Committee, which works alongside some of the world's leading universities, marketing agencies, media outlets and events and sports management companies.
The Committee aims to ensure all staff working on football’s showpiece will be “event ready” for 2022, while leaving a legacy of expertise to stage further major events.
The Leeds Beckett programme has been led by Nicola McCullough, Course Director, and supported by Nick Halafihi, Head of Subject for the Carnegie School of Sport’s Sport Business Group.
Nick (pictured above) said: “We are excited to be involved in a variety of Management programmes in Qatar and this has led us to the scoping of new FIFA World Cup 2022 opportunities with a variety of new partners.
“Significantly, the programme is also linked to the provision of a creditable CPD pathway which creates Master’s opportunities for our Sport Business subject group.”
Nick added: “We were delighted to see Nicola McCullough recognised at the recent graduation ceremony for her outstanding contribution to the programme following a vote carried out by the students.”
Nicola said: “The empowerment and confidence building of delegates has been ground-breaking, particularly with the female delegates.
One of the students, Coralie Durussel, said: “This course has been a true source of inspiration and motivation to achieve greater things.”
The Josoor Institute works in partnership with both Leeds Beckett and Georgetown University to deliver a world class CPD programme in Major Event Management.
Delegates on the 12-month programme attend from a variety of countries and different sporting and event organisations within the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa).
The delivery team includes Sport Business academics and specific industry consultants including Rob Oates, Commercial Director of Leeds Rugby.
In addition to the Major Events Management programme, a successful research bid of 15 case studies has also been secured, further demonstrating the team’s entrepreneurial approach to their international research and management portfolio.
