Careers, Networking and Development
Here at Leeds Law School, we have a dedicated team of passionate staff on hand to fully prepare and develop you for the world of legal employment. We do all we can to advance the skills of each of our students, securing qualifications which will enable you to enter into a wide range of professions.
With career development modules embedded into our law degrees, you will learn an array of essential proficiencies from CV writing and continuous interview practise to public speaking skills. We also run a range of immersive activities and events throughout the academic year, all designed to encourage and motivate students to network and become as actively involved with the law school community as possible.
An integral part of our Law School is the mentor scheme we run. This involves both alumni and local law professionals working closely with you to provide invaluable insight into the legal profession, support educational development and enhance career opportunities. The mentor scheme opens up a multitude of exciting opportunities such as work placements and one to one guidance from practising legal professionals.
The relationships that we have forged with the local legal community play an integral role in the educational progression of our students and is one that is growing from strength to strength.
From small, high street practices and in-house legal departments to large commercial firms operating globally - mentors who work with our students are appointed to cover a wide spectrum of different specialisms. Selected students are often nominated for special prizes by their mentors, usually sponsored by the firms they work for.
Connections with Law Firms
Our Law School is passionate about fostering and developing excellent relationships with local law firms and organisations. These relationships comprise a key element of your learning and development with members of the local legal community involved in our mentoring scheme, events, initiatives and careers support. This provides you with the opportunity to receive insight and guidance from experienced legal professionals practising in the local community and also offers a fantastic means for legal professionals and firms to engage with our students.
Some of the firms and organisations we work in conjunction with include:
Law Fair and Networking Event
We host an annual law fair attended by both regional and national employers and also a networking event for our students and contacts in the legal profession. These events provide both students and graduates with the opportunity to network and cultivate relationships with valuable professional contacts from the legal sector.
As a student, you will have the opportunity to meet with a principal staff member to discuss options and avenues tailored to help you to achieve your desired career goals.
Discover how our Law Clinic and involvement in the Street Leeds initiative are helping to professionally develop our students, as well as giving back to the local community.
Our Law in Practice speaker series provides opportunities to hear from high-profile speakers from the legal profession and to network with students, alumni and legal professionals. Discover more about the series and view our upcoming and previous events.
