How does UCAS Clearing work?

We know that Clearing can be stressful and confusing, so we’ve created this step by step guide to help you find your way.

This page contains relevant information for you if:

  • You have already applied via UCAS (and either got the results you needed, did better than expected or didn't get the results you needed)
  • You're a new applicant
  • You're an international student

I have already applied via UCAS

  1. Leeds Beckett is my firm choice

    1. Check your UCAS Hub account to see our decision. There will be a status notification on your account informing you of the status of your offer
    2. We'll send you an email asking you to 'Create an Account' in our Online Welcome Service. This is where you will be able to upload a photo for your student card and view induction information (when available). Keep an eye on the email account you have registered with at UCAS
  1. Leeds Beckett is my insurance and I want to come here instead of my firm choice

    1. Contact us on 0113 812 3113 if we are your Insurance place and would like to come here instead of your Firm choice to confirm we have a place for you
    2. Sign in to your UCAS Hub Account, and click on the ‘Decline my place’ button on your homepage. Please note that you need to be holding an unconditional offer with your Firm choice to be able to decline your place. If you offer is conditional, then you need to contact your firm choice university to discuss your application and options
    3. Submit an application through Clearing on UCAS Hub for the course you held as Insurance at Leeds Beckett
    4. Check UCAS Hub for an update to your application status. Our Admissions Team need to confirm your place and this can take some time during busy period
    5. We'll send you an email asking you to 'Create an Account' in our Online Welcome Service. This is where you will be able to upload a photo for your student card and view induction information (when available). Keep an eye on the email account you have registered with at UCAS
    6. Contact our Accommodation Office on 0113 812 5972 to see what accommodation we have available

  1. I did better than expected

    1. Visit our Online Prospectus to see which courses we have available through Clearing
    2. Contact us on 0113 812 3113 to discuss your options. At this point, we may be able to make you a verbal offer
    3. If we can make you an offer, refer yourself to us through UCAS Hub. The dropdown that allows you to do this will be available at 15:00 on results day: 17 August.
    4. Check UCAS Hub to review the status of our offer. We will be working through offers as quickly as possible but it can take some time for the status to change to 'confirmed'
    5. We'll send you an email asking you to 'Create an Account' in our Online Welcome Service. This is where you will be able to upload a photo for your student card and view induction information (when available). Keep an eye on the email account you have registered with at UCAS
    6. Contact Student Finance – if you have already applied for Student Finance you will need to let them know that you are changing your university choice as soon as possible
    7. Contact our Accommodation Office on 0113 812 5972 to see what accommodation we have available

i didn't get the results i needed

Check UCAS Hub. Have you been offered a place on your chosen course?

  1. No, I have not been offered a place on my chosen course

    1. Visit our Online Prospectus to see which courses we have available through Clearing
    2. Contact us on 0113 812 3113 to discuss your options. At this point, we may be able to make you a verbal offer
    3. If we can make you an offer, refer yourself to us through UCAS Hub. The dropdown that allows you to do this will be available at 15:00 on results day: 17 August.
    4. Check UCAS Hub to review the status of our offer. We will be working through offers as quickly as possible but it can take some time for the status to change to 'confirmed'

  1. Yes, I have been offered a place on my chosen course

    If your place has been confirmed – congratulations; there is no need to contact our university. Information welcoming you to Leeds Beckett will follow within a few hours.

I'm a new applicant

    1. Visit our Online Prospectus to see which courses we have available through Clearing
    2. Contact us on 0113 812 3113 to discuss your options. At this point, we may make you a verbal offer
    3. If we can make you an offer, you will need to register through UCAS Hub and then refer yourself to us. The dropdown menu that allows you to do this will be available at 13:00 on results day: 17 August
    4. Check UCAS Hub to review the status of our offer. We will be working through offers as quickly as possible but it can take some time for the status to change to 'confirmed'
    5. We'll send you an email asking you to 'Create an Account' in our Online Welcome Service. This is where you will be able to upload a photo for your student card and view induction information (when available). Keep an eye on the email account you have registered with at UCAS
    6. Contact Student Finance – if you have already applied for Student Finance you will need to tell them you are changing university
