Leeds School of Arts Building

Work is progressing well on the construction of the concrete frame: three of the building's 12 floors are now complete (basement 2, basement 1 and lower ground), which will house the theatre and cinema, as well as TV and music recording studios. The columns to connect the lower ground floor to the upper ground floor are also in place. The contractors expect to have the upper ground floor and first floor complete by Christmas, by which time you should start to see the floor peering over the hoarding.

Carnegie School of Sport building

Things are also well on track with the development of the Carnegie School of Sport Building at Headingley Campus. The structural steel frame is flying up and should be complete by Christmas. In the coming weeks the ground floor slab will be laid and concrete will start to be pumped to the upper floors. Elsewhere, preparation works have started on the installation of new lighting columns for the running track, which should be fully operational by Christmas.

Building Services Engineering Lab

Work is almost complete on the creation of a new engineering lab at Northern Terrace. NTG14 is being transformed from a classroom into a laboratory for our Building Services Engineering courses, which will be equipped with a range of high-tech engineering equipment, including models of air conditioning units, and heating and ventilation systems.

New look Tiki Bar and Rose Bowl Cafe

Over Christmas work will start on a £250k makeover of the Tiki Bar at Headingley and the Rose Bowl Café at City Campus. Both spaces will undergo significant refurbishment works, including new lighting, furniture and flooring, which will enhance the spaces as working and social environments for students and staff. The work is scheduled to begin on 14 December and more details about the project and its impact on operating hours will be released next week.
